This is a traditional tale that was enormously popular in the 1980s, to the point where it was so ubiquitous that people were getting bored of it. I thought it was about time to bring it back though! I heard it from the Swedish teller Love Ersare.

  2. Love the telling of this tale. I can see why it was popular through the 80s, when Margaret Thatcher was prime minister. (There was a popular call in school yards where I lived which went “Thatcher, Thatcher – milk snatcher”, as she ended free milk for all school children – http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/7932963/How-Margaret-Thatcher-became-known-as-Milk-Snatcher.html )

  3. PS – interesting it should resurface when the torries are back in power!!
